Dr. Romero is a fellowship trained dedicated hip and knee replacement specialist with a particular expertise in robotic-assisted and AI enhanced joint replacement, including muscle sparing anterior hip replacement, quadriceps sparing sub-vastus knee replacement, partial knee replacement, arthroplasty in young active patients and short-stay rapid-recovery joint replacement.
Dr. Romero is a leader in the field of joint replacement serving on a US advisory board for robotics design and development. He leads surgeon education courses for advanced techniques in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery. He is also one a the few recipients of the prestigious Otto AuFranc International Hip Society Award.
Dr. Romero has pioneered a new technique in knee replacement that avoids cutting any muscle or tendons while incorporating the benefits of advanced robotics for custom surgical planning. This has lead to much quicker recovery than traditional knee replacement with a diminished need for opioids and assistive walking aids in the early post-operative period.
His practice is committed to providing operative and non-operative treatment plans that are tailored to each patients’ individual needs with a focus on relieving pain, restoring function and improving quality of life.
Dr. Romero graduated from the University of Texas in Austin where he studied Human Biology and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Following college, he earned his medical degree at the University of Texas McGovern School of Medicine in Houston where he graduated amongst the top of his class and was elected the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.
He completed his orthopedic surgical residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and completed his fellowship training at the world-renowned Cornell University Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City(#1 hospital US News world report ~16 years). There he worked alongside world leaders in hip and knee replacement to master his craft and learn the most cutting-edge advancements in the field of arthroplasty. Throughout training he has received numerous awards and recognition for his achievements in research, education, clinical and surgical patient care.
Dr. Romero serves as an elected reviewer for several orthopedic journals, has authored numerous publications, earned multiple research awards/grants and presented his research nationally and internationally.
Dr. Romero and his wife, Bridgette, love raising their two sons here in Austin. He has a passion for international medical missions, enjoys traveling with his family, being active in their church, fishing, coaching his kids in sports, and attending Longhorn football games.
